The Nordic diet is high in sugar and contains large consumptions of margarine, high-fat dairy, red meat in turn having low intakes of fruit and vegetables. Common and traditional foods in Norway consist of flatbreads, potato dishes, gelatinous fish, whale meat and a few other random finds. Additionally, Norwegians love their bread having it with lunch, dinner and sometimes even as a snack. These staples are what make the Nordic mortality rate higher than those that typically follow a Mediterranean way of life. The starchy and cholesterol filled diets of Nordics leads to a higher risk of heart disease and diabetes.

The ironic aspect of this all is that there has been a recent development to a diet or eating plan we should say, the plan embraces a healthy lifestyle and healthy way of eating which includes berry, rains and lots of fish or shellfish. However, in comparing the Nordic and Mediterranean lifestyles it can safely be said that you should opt for the Mediterranean way of life. The less starchy, hearty and nutrient-packed diet will lift your mood and improve your overall health. Not to mention you will also live longer which is super important.
